HTML5
making video work

Everybody seems to be talking about it...

And with good reason. If you're not sure what it means here's a very simple explanation. It's a video standard that comes bundled with browsers and allows users to watch video without a plugin like Flash or Quicktime.

We're quickly moving towards the tipping point where you're going to need to support it. Why? Well, the big video sharing sites have been supporting it for a while and the more of them that do, the less people use Flash. And less people using Flash means less people able to see your video if it's only available in Flash. Also, new browsers (even Internet Explorer) support HTML5. And finally there's mobile, most notably the iPad and iPhone which only support HTML5. All of this is driving the numbers up. While it's still a small percentage of users it's growing...

So... what to do about it. Well we offer cross platform players that detect the device a user is on and play the appropriate file. That also requires that we have the appropriate file to play so our encoding system outputs multiple formats from each upload supporting Flash, HTML5 (for Firefox and Chrome too!), variable bitrate delivery to iPhone and iPad and lower bitrate 3G friendly Flash for Android phones like HTC, Samsung etc.

If you're sitting on 5000 flash videos and wondering what the hell to do, give us a call. We'll help you migrate your content from other providers or even YouTube and get you up to speed.
